LAS VEGAS >> Two men have been arrested after a guest was stabbed over the weekend in the elevator of a Las Vegas hotel.
Trent Wilcox, 25, and Carlos Heredia, 23, were booked on suspicion of attempted murder after the encounter at around 2 a.m. Saturday, police said.
A witness told police she and her husband were going to their room at The Hotel, which is part of the Mandalay Bay property on the Las Vegas Strip.
The woman said Wilcox and Heredia appeared drunk and picked an argument with them. She said she told them to get off the elevator and tried to push them out when Wilcox grabbed her husband in a chokehold and forced him to the ground.
Heredia then started stabbing him, but several of his jabs went off the mark and slashed his friend Wilcox, according to the arrest report. The weapon was a silver folding knife with a red handle.
When she saw the blood, the victim’s wife pressed the red emergency button in the elevator door.
The victim was taken to the hospital with at least 10 stab wounds in his arm and chest.
The two suspects were also treated. They are due in a Las Vegas court Wednesday.
Gordon Absher, a spokesman for MGM Resorts International, which owns the casino, said guest safety is a top priority at MGM hotels.
“Our security officers were already in the area and were on scene very quickly to assist and hold the suspects until police arrived,” he said.
The stabbing was the latest in a series of incidents on the Las Vegas Strip.
An overnight shooting in a parking structure outside a movie theater in early February left two people critically wounded. A 20-year-old man was accused of firing a gunshot into the floor of a crowded casino during a New Year’s Eve argument.
