2 dead in Hilo fire

Hawaii County firefighters found two bodies in the rubble of a Hilo home destroyed by fire this morning.

Firefighters responded to the alarm at 1:08 a.m. at 917 Wainaku Street and found the house fully engulfed in flames, with the roof partially collapsed. They brought the fire under control at 1:25 a.m. and extinguished it by 2 a.m.

After the fire was extinguished, firefighters found the bodies in the rubble. No details were available on the identities of the victims. 

Hawaii County firefighters and police are investigating the fire.

Autopsies have been ordered to determine cause of death. 

Damage is estimated at $150,000. The cause of the blaze has not been determined.
