2 men killed after SUV crashes into power pole on Hawaii island

Two men died this afternoon after a sport utility vehicle apparently crashed into a power pole and came to rest on its side against a tree on a road in Glenwood.

Firefighters had to free the two men from the SUV using hydraulic power tools. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters found the SUV near 18-4092 N. Glenwood Road, pinned against a tree. The crash was reported at 3:44 p.m.

Firefighters said the power pole was sheared off and held up by electrical lines.

The road was closed while police investigated.
