An elderly couple was injured early this morning in a Kurtistown structure fire, Hawaii County fire officials said.
Firefighters arrived at the home on Opeapea Street in the Hawaiian Acres subdivision around 5:30 a.m. to find live power lines down and a 900-square-foot structure completely ablaze.
The man and woman who occupied the home were able to escape but had to be taken to a nearby hospital, officials said.
Crews had the fire under control within 10 minutes and extinguished it around 7 a.m., according to officials.
The walls and floor of the unfinished home were wood, and the roof was metal. Damage was estimated at $105,000.
Officials said the cause of the blaze is still being investigated.
