Car hits 2 women crossing Pearl City street
Two female pedestrians were injured — one seriously — Thursday afternoon when a car hit them while they were crossing the street in Pearl City.
Emergency Medical Services said a 31-year-old woman was in serious condition and a 29-year-old woman was in stable condition after the 5:11 p.m. accident. Paramedics took both women to a trauma center.
Both women were in a crosswalk at 919 Lehua Ave., makai of Kamehameha Highway, when the accident occurred, according to EMS.

Today’s fast pace of society makes me wonder if it is against the law to slow down and stop for the pedestrians?

Pedestrian in a marked crosswalk. Generally they have right of way. Not sure if the case in this incident, car owner gonna find out soon via his insurance.
Ride to them trauma center for two….before they get there via ambulance.. yikes !
Exactly. In our state killing a pedestrian is an “accident”. In most other states it is.manslaughter. So if you want to kill someone here, use a car.

Lehua Ave runs north/south. At 5pm the sun would be on your right or left depending which way your are going. Unless your were coming out of Second or Third St facing West.

Should change the pedestrian’s attitude. If u cannot see my eyes I cannot see u. As a pedestrian, I always slow down and look for the driver’s eyes AND if they are slowing down acknowledging my presence. Forget about pedestrian laws giving you the right of way. Change that to the laws of physics. A 1-ton car will always beat a 150 pound animal.
Funny my car’s driver’s side windshield column is thick and wider with the black plastic rain deflector. When I turn left into an intersection I cannot see a pedestrian. When she walks I still cannot see her because the column is still blocking the moving target as I drive forward. Pedestrian moves at the same speed my blocked column view. I will brake suddenly when I see her at the last second. Scary.
What an attitude. I would actually pay to see your performance in court, arguing that your victim was at fault because your car is bigger than her body. “Also, your honor, she was hiding behind my rain deflector.”
If you can’t see where you’re going, don’t go.

Some pedestrians don’t care. The other day in Kapahulu area, a middle aged female steps into the crosswalk when the countdown was at 10 seconds while cars turning left in front of her. Luckily, last car had passed.
Yeah. I see eighty year old grandma jaywalking all the time.
Government has done very little or nothing to slow down the speeding drivers on Lehua Avenue!!!! This street has been in the news many many times before … what is the public to do????? Get rid of our existing Representatives!!!! Instead we promote them and make them U.S. Congressman! Crack down on speeding drivers everywhere!!!! Speed limits are violated constantly .. the City could make money from all these offenders!!!!!
A 4X4 truck would have just went over them without running them over.
