3 arrested for allegedly running prostitution business in Pawaa

Rickey Lee Shankles, left, Katherine Luo, and Katchina Moore were indicted on a charge of illegal ownership of a business on Wednesday.
Three people were indicted and arrested Wednesday in connection with a prostitution business in the Pawaa area, a prosecutor’s office spokesman said.
Police arrested the three at about 1:30 p.m. in the area of Gogo Spa, 1507 S. King St.
Arrested are: Katchina Moore, 41, of Kaimuki; Rickey Lee Shankles, 52, whose address is the same as Gogo Spa; and Katherine Luo, 54, of Pawaa.
All three were indicted on a charge of illegal ownership of a business. Their bails were set between $10,000 and $50,000.
A prosecutor’s office spokesman said in a statement that the three were indicted in connection with operating a business used for prostitution.
The prosecutor’s office will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. today with police and U.S. Homeland Security to discuss the case.

scary area. I am surprised that anyone is surprised about this, though. The city is teeming with hidden prostitutes. I see them every night coming back from Kukio. Some are part-time, some permanent, some doing it first- time, some house wives, a growing number of male teens, etc.

Sky high property taxes — get a clue. Hawaii has the lowest in the country by far. A typical house here about $750K pays about $2,300 a year in property taxes. In Illinois you will pay over 2.5% of its value — close to $19,000 a year! Many other states are even higher with sales taxes over 10%. Don’t even think about saying anything about sky high property taxes because you have no clue and stop wailing and whining about rail — we are going to take you screaming and dragging into the 21st century!!

Your property tax assesment is severely flawed due to the fact that the average home in Illinois is in the $150k range. Homes of distinction, owned by the top 5% elite are priced in the $750k+ range so the tax the average home owner pays is still by far exaggerated by your claims compared to what we pay in taxes for our million dollar $150k starter homes by Illinois standards.
Secondly, HART, the mayor and SA all admitted property taxes might need to be tapped at the very least by 19% to cover O&M expenses after the rail is completed. This estimate was before the price tag ballooned into a $10-$14 billion dollar boondoggle. True estimates are coming in at closer to 40% in property tax increases.

Mahalo dragoninwater. People don’t realize that property taxes have already risen 400% in many cases. Not because the State has raised the rate but because property valuation has risen this much in the lase 20-30 years. Retirees on fixed income understand this totally.
Actually $750k would pay $2625. What is the median home price in Illinois? While property tax there may be less in comparison, Oahu is by no means cheap unless you have this much extra money saved annually. Does your wife work? My hat is off to you if you can afford a mortgage for this $750k home and support your family without putting your wife to work. We don’t need extra taxes in the form of a luxury rail so let the people who feel the hurt rant any way they want.
The overall tax burden in Hawaii is higher in every state except New York.
Property tax is lower because we are taxed higher in just about everything else. Oahu’s 4.72% GET is equivalent to about a 12-14 sales tax. And most states don’t tax food and medicine.
Not all states collect state income tax, etc.
Hawaii residents pay more taxes than Illinois residents for sure.

The “oldest profession in the world” and like gambling, is legal and generates big taxes for Nevada. Big business in Las Vegas.
Prostitution is legal in Nevada but illegal in they city of Las Vegas where cops crack down hard on working girls and their pimps. Police do undercover work to catch them in LV and film their stings for the world to see. Of course there is prostitution in LV but it not overt and way behind the scenes unlike the public streetwalkers and massage parlors on Oahu. Hawaii should do the same and legalize prostitution to tax and regulate the industry and place the brothels in isolated areas away from Waikiki, Chinatown, schools, etc. Also put street pimps out of business by the police coming down hard on them and help reduce underage minors forced into the sex trade. Hawaii legal brothels have to register the owners and workers to check for age, health of workers, etc.
Wonder if HPD officers needed to consummate the relationship with the girls as port of their deep, penetrating investigation??
