Bystanders at a Waikiki hotel rescued a man in his 60s who nearly drowned at the hotel swimming pool this afternoon.

Emergency Medical Services said the man got into trouble at about 4:40 p.m. at the Waikiki Marriott Hotel.

People at the pool pulled him from the water and began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation until he was able to breathe on his own, EMS said.

Paramedics transported the man by ambulance to an area hospital in serious condition.
