Driver passes out, rams restaurant in Lihue

A 65-year-old Hanamaulu man escaped injury Saturday when he lost consciousness and drove his truck into a restaurant in Lihue.

According to police, the man was turning into the parking lot of No. 1 Chinese Restaurant from Kuhio Highway just before 5 p.m. when suffered a seizure that caused him to lose consciousness. The truck then struck the restaurant building.

Neither the driver nor any of the restaurant’s staff or patrons was injured.

Estimated damage to the restaurant and the vehicle was less than $100, according to police.
