LOS ANGELES >> Los Angeles is getting a new mayor.

Eric Garcetti takes the oath of office this evening at the foot of City Hall.

The veteran city councilman officially takes over the job leading the city of nearly 4 million people July 1, replacing fellow Democrat Antonio Villaraigosa.

The 42-year-old Garcetti has promised to attend to longstanding gripes about potholes and cracked sidewalks while getting the city’s economy moving.

The Ivy Leaguer and Rhodes Scholar was credited with redevelopment in Hollywood while he served on the City Council.

There will be some celebrity sparkle, with Jimmy Kimmel and musician Moby scheduled to participate in the inaugural festivities.

The new mayor has a low-key, wonky, style, which will be a change from Villaraigosa, whose term was marked by headlines about his nightlife and romances.
