Fire destroys Hilo home

A fire on Kopaa Street in Hilo destroyed a home Friday night.

The Hawaii County Fire Department said the fire was at 11-1851 Kopaa Street was reported at 11:34 p.m. Firefighters brought the fire under control at 12:08 a.m. and reported it extinguished at 12:25 a.m.

The fire destroyed two 40-foot metal containers with wooden flooring that were being used as living quarters, firefighters said.

Damage is estimated at $120,000.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
