Fishtrack.com, a website for fishermen, has added webcams providing online, real-time video feeds of ocean conditions including at what it calls “Ala Moana Harbor.”
This morning’s video shows surfers and stand-up paddlers in the Ala Moana vicinity.
The service seeks to provide saltwater fishermen with real-time views of local conditions via the Internet, with no need to download a separate application.
The 60 so-called fish-cams are webcams pointed at the ocean from New York to Florida, the eastern Gulf of Mexico, the California coast and select areas of the Caribbean.
The video feeds and information can be accessed for free, though the live-stream from the Ala Moana “fishcam” was interrupted by a graphic inviting users to “skip the ads and get unlimited viewing today,” via a free trial of premium service. No advertising had been displayed.
A wind, wave and tide forecast was provided for Tuesday, today at 8 a.m., 2 p.m., and 8 p.m., and Thursday at 2 a.m., but users wishing to see five more days of wind and wave forecasts were invited to start a free trial.
The site’s Shark tracking feature applies only to the California coast and involves a tagging program designed to gain insight into the migratory patterns of Shortfin Mako sharks in the area.
