Freshman Marcus Doi had two hits, including the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh to help Hawaii rally for a 5-2 win over Albany on Thursday night for its first win of the season.

Matt Cooper (1-0) didn’t allow an earned run for the second straight start, giving up five hits in seven innings with one walk and five strikeouts to earn the win.

UH trailed 2-0 when Marc Flores tripled and scored on an error in the sixth to cut the lead in half.

Hawaii tagged Albany reliever Andrew Jaurique (0-1) for three consecutive hits in the seventh. Austin Wobrock hit a one-out double and scored on a single by second baseman Juliene Jones. Jones stole second and took third on a throwing error before Doi ripped a single back up the middle to give UH its first lead.

Doi scored with two outs on Albany’s third throwing error of the inning.

Kalei Hanawahine added a run in the eighth, drawing a leadoff walk and scoring on a fielder’s choice by Wobrock.

Eric Gleese worked the final two innings, allowing a harmless one-out single in the ninth, to earn the save.

Junior Jarrett Arakawa (0-0, 4.50 ERA) will start Game 2 of the series for the Rainbow Warriors on Friday night at 6:35.
