HONOLULU >> It’s Kamehameha Day and most government offices are scheduled to be closed.
Wednesday’s holiday honors King Kamehameha the Great, the warrior who united the Hawaiian islands and established the Kingdom of Hawaii.
Most state, city and county offices are closed. Federal offices are open, with the exception of U.S. District Court in Honolulu.
Kamehameha Day was established in 1871. The holiday is marked by lei-draping ceremonies over statues of Kamehameha.
