Honolulu lawyer James H. Ashford has been appointed to a six-year term as a district judge on Oahu, the state Judiciary said Friday.

Ashford will replace Dean Ochiai who was selected as a Honolulu Circuit Court judge.

Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald named Ashford from a list of candidates from the Judicial Selection Commission.

Ashford, a partner in the law firm of Cades Schutte, focused on commercial litigation, employment law, construction and condominium disputes and other types of civil cases, according to the judiciary.
