Maui fire investigators are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a cottage and damaged an adjacent home Monday night on Kona Place in Kahului. Firefighters responding to the 9:34 p.m. alarm found the 600-square-foot cottage fully engulfed. No one was home at the time. Damage was estimated at $150,000 to the cottage and $25,000 to the adjacent home, which was under construction and unoccupied.

Firefighters responding to the 9:34 p.m. alarm found the 600-square-foot cottage fully engulfed in flames. An adjacent structure had flames and smoke coming off its roof.
Damage is estimated at $150,000 to the cottage and $25,000 to the adjacent home, which was under construction and unoccupied.
No one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported.
