A 34-year-old man is awaiting a court appearance after he stole a television by pretending to return it to a store, police said.

William D. Tagovailoa, of Kapolei, was charged Friday with second-degree theft and remained at the Honolulu police cell block Saturday, unable to post $25,000 bail. He was also charged with two probation violations.

Police said Tagovailoa entered a store in the Ala Moana area about 3:15

a.m. Thursday and placed a TV in a shopping cart. He tried to return the item with a previous receipt.

When the store refused to give Tagovailoa a refund, he exited the store with the TV, police said.

Officers arrested Tagovailoa about half an hour later at the Ala Moana Center.
