Long Beach State hands Hawaii another Big West loss

Billy Hull

Long Beach State’s Colton Vaughn finished 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs and Hawaii gave up a season-high 20 hits in an 11-5 loss to the Dirtbags on Saturday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

The loss guarantees that Hawaii (19-27, 3-14 Big West) will finish with a losing record in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1973-74, when the team played less than 20 games.

Hawaii starter Scott Kuzminsky (4-6) gave up 10 hits in four innings as Long Beach State scored seven times in the fifth to take a 9-0 lead.

Kaeo Aliviado went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and Adam Hurley and Austin Wobrock each hit two-run singles for Hawaii.

Josh Frye (6-0) earned the win for the Dirtbags (25-23, 11-6) allowing five runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings.

All nine LBSU starters had at least one hit. The 20 hits allowed by Hawaii were the most it has allowed since a 12-inning game against Nevada on May 2, 2010.
