A man in his 70s was critically injured when he apparently was knocked over by a city bus in Waikiki on Saturday, the second pedestrian collision involving a city bus in three days.
Witnesses told police that the man was attempting to enter the bus through one of the side doors when the bus pulled away, knocking him to the ground.
The incident occurred just after 1 p.m. at a bus stop on Ala Moana Boulevard, across the street from Kobe Japanese Steak House.
The man suffered injuries consistent with the bus running over his legs, according to Lt. Robert Towne of the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division.
The man, who has a Waikiki address, was conscious after the incident and briefly spoke with police before paramedics transported him to the Queen’s Medical Center.
Towne said police will review surveillance video from the bus as part of the investigation.
Police closed two westbound lanes to investigate.
On Thursday a 55-year-old Kalihi man was killed when he was hit by a city bus while crossing North King Street near Gulick Avenue in Kalihi. That crash happened about 4:35 a.m.
