The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the 80-year-old man who died Sunday from injuries he received when the car he was driving hit a utility pole in Wahiawa as Masao Gushi.

An autopsy was performed Monday to determine the cause of death.

Police said the victim was driving on California Avenue at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when his 1994 Toyota sedan hit an utility pole, police said. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition, where he died four days later.

He was Oahu’s ninth traffic death, compared to 11 at the same time last year.
