A fire that broke out in a Hilo home Sunday morning started in a mattress, Hawaii County Fire officials said.

Firefighters arrived on scene to the single room fire on Aipuni Street at around 11:40 a.m. to find flames coming out of a ground floor window of the two-story tile and wood structure, officials said.

No injuries were reported and the Red Cross was called to assist occupants who might have been affected.

The fire was under control at 11:44 a.m. and extinguished at 11:49 a.m. Officials said the cause is under investigation.

Officials closed Aipuni Street to traffic at Kaumana Dive for approximately an hour.
