Maui County rescue personnel Wednesday rescued an 11-year-old boy who got sick while hiking with a group of boys on the Waihee Valley Ridge Trail.

The boy was transported by the helicopter to a landing zone, and then taken by American Medical Response ambulance in stable condition, to Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Fire officials said the report was made at 5:12 p.m. and the group was about three miles into the trail when the 11-year-old couldn’t go any farther.
