Multiple blasts kill 1, wound 11 in Nigeria

LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — A Nigerian official says one person was killed and 11 wounded after three bombs rocked three soccer viewing centers in the central city of Jos.

Plateau state spokesman Pam Ayuba says authorities suspect a radical Muslim sect locally known as Boko Haram who have launched similar simultaneous attacks in northern Nigeria. He told The Associated Press on Sunday that three bombs went off at about 10 p.m. Saturday in three places where people had gathered to view a match between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Ayuba said the blast in the Angwan Rukuba viewing center killed a 35-year-old barber. He said a fourth bomb was found at one of the three viewing centers but was not detonated.

Jos is in Nigeria’s "middle belt," where dozens of ethnic groups vie for control.
