Plato’s Closet opened for sales this morning to an enthusiastic crowd of shoppers who were snaked around the corner by 10 a.m.

The store, at 1161 S. Beretania Street at Piikoi, had been open for months to sellers of gently used clothing, shoes and accessories, but today is the first day of retail sales to the public.

Targeted for teens and twenty-somethings, prices for denim jeans start at $8 and go up. One pair of brand new Miss Me jeans, still bearing a $98 price tag from Le Lotus Bleu, was marked for sale at $35. Aldo blue suede platform heels were marked at $10, as was a 100-percent silk Coach scarf. A huge Dolce & Gabbana purse was marked for sale at $16 while other, more casual bags by Harajuku Lovers and other designers were marked at $10.

A large selection of guys’ apparel, shoes and hats, including brand new ball caps, also is available. Shoes, including name-brand athletic shoes for guys range up to hard-to-find size 14 at $60 and below.

One shopper snagged a pair of $8 Reef-brand board shorts for her husband, as well as other merchandise.

Plato’s Closet is a locally owned franchise of a national chain.
