No sign of tradewinds; muggy, Kona weather sticking around

Forecasters expect more muggy, hazy mornings and scattered afternoon leeward and interior showers through the later part of the week.

A weather system northwest of the islands and high pressure over the state are blocking the cooling northwest tradewinds and National Weather Service forecasters say the humid, voggy weather could stick around for a while.

“The same warm and humid conditions may persist over the state during the later half of the week,” forecasters said.

Clouds moving up from the south and humid conditions brought some showers to Oahu and Kauai Sunday afternoon.

Forecasters expect similar weather for the work week with land breezes clearing skies at night and sea breezes and daytime heating bringing afternoon showers, some of the showers may be heavy.

There’s no indication yet on when the tradewinds will return.
