Long Beach State junior hitter Taylor Crabb, a 2010 Punahou School graduate, was named the 2013 AVCA Division I-II Men’s National Volleyball Player of the Year tonight in Los Angeles.
Crabb is the third 49er to receive the national honor from the AVCA, joining Brent Hilliard (1992) and Paul Lotman (2008). Crabb also was named first-team AVCA All-America and first-team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation this season.
Crabb, who led the nation in kills for seven straight weeks during the regular season, ranks third with 4.18 kills per set. He is also among the top 10 in the country in points (No. 4, 4.71 per set) and hitting percentage (No. 8, 353).
Crabb was named to the MPSF all-tournament team after helping the 49ers (24-8) to a runner-up finish. He finished the season with 502 kills, 209 digs, 72 blocks and 23 aces.
