A 21-year-old man is in custody for allegedly assaulting an officer and damaging a police vehicle during his arrest in Palolo on Wednesday for burglary.

The incident started at about 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday when the suspect went to a friend’s home in Palolo with a knife and made comments about killing someone.

The suspect locked himself in the home, broke into an adjoining store and ransacked it, police said.

He initially refused to leave after officers arrived on scene.

But the man’s friend arrived and convinced him to come out.

While officers were arresting the man, he allegedly assaulted an officer and damaged a police vehicle, police said.

Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of burglary, assaulting an officer and criminal property damage.
