Pedestrians in Waikiki held onto their hats during gusty wind conditions along Kalakaua Ave.

Strong winds across the state prompted weather officials to issue a wind advisory in effect until 6 p.m. Monday.

Areas covered under the advisory are Oahu, Lanai, Kahoolawe, and the Kohala and South Point areas of the Big Island.

The northeasterly gusts are expected to be strongest on Oahu near the Koolau and Waianae mountain ranges in Nanakuli, Makaha, Kahuku, Punaluu, Laie, Kailua, Kaneohe, Waimanalo, and Makakilo. Winds are expected to< reach up to 25 to 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

A wind advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph or gusts of at least 50 mph are expected.
