The woman who died after being struck by a city garbage truck last Friday was identified by city medical examiners as Pauline Ando, 83, of Aiea.

Ando was believed to have been crossing the street at Kupuwao and Kupukupu streets in the Newtown Estates section of Aiea at about 8:53 a.m. when the accident happened, officials said. She was hit by the rear tire of the truck, which had just picked up a trash bin and was backing up, police said.

Department of Emergency Services personnel took her in extremely critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center where she died.
