Arraignment postponed in Sandy Beach ‘abandoned’ baby case

Arraignment has been postponed for a Honolulu woman police say reported finding a newborn on a beach that was actually her child.

Keala Simeona’s attorney asked that her arraignment to be postponed until Nov. 14. The judge granted attorney Franklin Don Pacarro’s request.

Pacarro declined to comment outside of court. Simeona is free on $250 bail and did not attend Thursday’s hearing.

Twenty-one-year-old Simeona was arrested in April for filing a false police report. Her arraignment has been postponed several times.

Police say she reported finding an infant girl on Sandy Beach and took the baby to the hospital. Police say it was later determined Simeona is the baby’s mother.

Family Court was to decide whether to return the child to her family or whether parental rights would be terminated.
