A fire in the Manoa Marketplace caused extensive damage to Manoa Nails salon and water damage to Bank of Hawaii below.
After being shuttered for one year and a day following a fire, the Bank of Hawaii branch at the Manoa Marketplace reopened Tuesday morning.
The fire began in the break area of a second-floor nail salon above the bank branch on Oct. 14 and forced the evacuation of a building and nearby farmer’s market.
The first floor of the bank branch suffered major water damage when a second-floor water supply line melted.
The Honolulu Fire Department said nail saloon employees were using a gas stove near bottles of acetone, which generated a huge fireball.
A female employee suffered minor, non-life threatening burns and was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.
Damage to the nail salon was estimated at $500,000.
