BART resumes after person removed from under train

SAN FRANCISCO » Bay Area Rapid Transit officials say service is returning to normal after a passenger was rescued alive from underneath a train in San Francisco.

BART spokeswoman Luna Salaver says it was not immediately known how the person ended up under the train at the downtown Montgomery Street station.

But she says crews were able to separate the cars so the person could be removed and taken to a hospital.

The incident caused the station to be closed for a little more than an hour of the evening commute, creating significant delays as trains heading to Oakland and other parts of the East Bay bypassed the station and were limited to a single track.

Oakland television station KTVU reports that the injured person was a woman who jumped in front of the arriving train.
