Big Island authorities charged an 18-year-old Puna man Friday on numerous criminal charges including assault and auto theft in connection with an Aug. 20 incident in which occupants of a car smashed the window of another car in Hawaiian Beaches.

A police task force raided early Friday morning an Ainaloa home on Tiki Court and arrested Ronsten Andrade.

Andrade allegedly tried to flee, but officers caught him and arrested him.

On Aug. 20, police said the occupants of a Mitsubishi sedan smashed the window of a Honda Civic  in Hawaiian Beaches and then the Mistsubishi sideswiped the Honda before fleeing the scene.

He was arrested and charged later on Friday with suspicion of second- and third-degree assault, two counts of second-degree criminal property damage, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, three counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and contempt of court.

Andrade was also arrested on several bench warrants and a number of investigations, police said.

Bail was set at $72,000.

Authorities also arrested and charged August Fernandez, 23, of Ainaloa with hindering prosecution.
