Big Island police ask for help in identifying a body found at a campsite

Big Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a body discovered on July 28 in the area of Kings Landing in Hilo.

The body of the man was located in a blue tent at a campsite 100 feet east of Pakane Road. The man is believed to have been in his 30s or 40s, between 5-feet 6-inches and 5-feet 7-inches tall and to have had dirty blond hair and a short beard. He was last seen wearing jeans shorts, a T-shirt and a backpack.

Police do not suspect foul play.

Police ask that anyone with information about the man’s identity call Detective Wendall Carter at 961-2378 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. People who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 392-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
