The body of a 52-year-old opihi picker was found floating in waters off the Kona Coast Friday.

Big Island police identified the man as George Nalimu of Kona.

Police said a dive boat found Nalimu’s body about 100 yards from the shoreline outside Pawai Bay, fronting Queen Liliuokalani Children’s Center, about 10:15 a.m.

The boat took Nalimu’s body to Honokahau Harbor. He was pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital.

Nalimu was last seen picking opihi alone, and had his opihi knife and a bag of opihi with him when his body was found, police said.

Police have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
