Burned, abandoned Palolo Catholic church to be torn down
The vacant Catholic church, which was the scene of a fire last week, will be demolished.
The city issued a demolition permit Friday — a day after a fire damaged the basement kitchen of the St. Patrick Church Food and Outreach — to general contractor Yi-sun Chiu.
The property, owned by the Roman Catholic Church Hawaii, has been boarded up for several years and has been a scene of criminal activity, neighbors reported.
Firefighters responded to the two-alarm building fire at at 2117 Palolo Ave. Thursday night.
Damage estimate was set at $1,000.
However, fire investigators were unable to determine the cause of the fire.
Firefighters contained the fire where it started in the basement kitchen.
Since church had been boarded up, firefighters had to break into the building to extinguish the blaze.
No one was in the building at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

It seems like many people have left the Catholic church after all the child sex scandals. It’s sad to see this happen but it’s not surprising. Many people today list their faith as “none” of the above. Few parents would leave their innocent little boys alone with a Catholic priest or bishop these days.
But it is okay to leave your kid with a coach?
