Authorities say Celestial Cassman, a California attorney, was killed on Maui while on vacation.

WAILUKU >> A California man accused of killing his girlfriend on Maui two years ago will be sentenced in October after agreeing he’s mentally fit for his case to proceed in court.

The Maui News reported Gerald Galaway, Jr. of Santa Cruz will be sentenced on Oct. 10.

Galaway initially pleaded no contest to reduced charges of manslaughter and kidnapping in the death of Santa Cruz attorney Celestial Cassman.

The couple was vacationing on Maui in 2011 when Cassman was killed.

Galaway was originally charged with second-degree murder.

He later asked to withdraw the no-contest pleas, saying he felt pressured, confused and was “in a bit of a trance” when he entered the pleas.

On Monday, he agreed he’s mentally fit to proceed and won’t request to withdraw his no-contest pleas.
