TheBus and Handi-Van will not be in service Friday for the safety of drivers and passengers due to the approaching storms.

TheBus service will stop at the end of day Thursday, while Handi-Van service will only be available for emergencies on Friday, city officials said at a press conference Wednesday.

The city could choose to restart bus and Handi-Van service at some point Friday if it is prudent to do so, Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell said.

Meanwhile, all city parks, including Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, will close at 4 p.m. Thursday. Those who have purchased camping permits will be allowed to get refunds, Parks Director Michelle Nekota said.

Four regularly scheduled neighborhood board meetings Thursday have also been cancelled.

Caldwell said decisions on all other city operations – including satellite city halls and motor vehicle licensing offices, will be determined at noon Thursday when officials are expected to have a better idea of how strong Hurricane Iselle will when it hits Oahu.

The latest estimates have Iselle making landfall on Oahu at about 6 a.m. Friday.

The city’s Emergency Operations Center is expected to open at 8 a.m. Thursday.
