The Coast Guard will soon begin enforcing a temporary security zone in Kailua Bay.

Restrictions begin at 10 a.m. today and lasts until 8 p.m. on Jan. 5 unless canceled earlier by the Coast Guard.

The zone is designed to protect President Barack Obama and his family as they spend a holiday vacation in Kailua.

First Lady Michelle Obama, the couple’s two daughters and first dog Bo have already arrived at a three-house compound on Kailuana Place. The president is expected no earlier than tomorrow.

The zone begins at Kapoho Point, extends westward to the shoreline at Namala Place, and includes portions of the nearby Kawainui Canal. Yellow buoys will mark the zone.

Violators are subject to fines and/or imprisonment.
