Honolulu City Councilman Tom Berg.

City Councilman Tom Berg was combative, extremely argumentative, irrational and intoxicated when Secret Service agents at an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation event refused to allow him to re-enter the Hale Koa Hotel, a police report says.

Berg refused to leave a checkpoint at 10:15 p.m., Nov. 12, or wait until the safe zone was cleared for access, according to the police report which was released today.

In an interview, Berg said he had been drinking but was not drunk and only wanted to get his cell phone, which he left under his seat with the invitation to the event.

He had attended the event as a guest, but the Secret Service told him he could not go back in because he lacked proper credentials.

Berg was ultimately allowed back in, but not before he became “extremely argumentative and irrational,” said the police report.
