Crews airlift visitor with altitude sickness off Haleakala

A 51-year-old woman was airlifted off the Halemauu Trail in Haleakala National Park on Sunday after experiencing altitude sickness.

Fire rescue personnel responding to a 3:49 p.m. call located the woman about a half-mile above the crater floor, approximately three miles from the trail head.

The woman, a visitor to Hawaii, was transported by ambulance to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition.
