CRIMESTOPPERS Police and CrimeStoppers released a security camera image of a well-dressed man wanted in an investigation into an alleged sex assault on a city bus last month.

CrimeStoppers and Honolulu police detectives are asking for the public’s help in locating and identifying a man, dressed in a suit and tie, in connection with a sex assault case on a city bus last month.

A 14-year-old girl boarded a bus at the Alapai Transit Station at about 4:30 p.m. on July 30, police said. The man stood behind her and allegedly sexually assaulted her.

The girl notified the driver when the bus arrived at the Waipahu Transit Station. The bus driver called police, but the man left the bus and was last seen walking toward Times Supermarket.

CrimeStoppers released a security camera image of the suspect in the third-degree sexual assault case.

He is described as being in his 30s, about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds with brown eyes. He was wearing a gray suit and a tie and was carrying a black backpack.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *Crime on a cellular phone.

Gosh, dang it, children need to learn to run and yell for help IMMEDIATELY. Was in the news this same type of situation happened on the plane when some perv did something to a girl that he sat next to but she did not immediately yell and jump out of her seat and tell everyone when the guy did next to her. Instead she kept quiet for the whole time and only till a flight attendant noticed the girl sitting in distress did they find out. This sounds like something that should be taught in school, in the A-plus program, parents, etc. to constantly instill children to not freeze and up and act immediately when something does something like this to them. In Hawaii, assault on a City bus driver is a felony and bus drivers don’t hesitate to intervene for their passengers. Which starts the discussion that the Oahu train to nowhere will be driverless and unless there are other passengers willing to intervene, there would be no one to help the girl in this same situation. Camera on the train? Any perv with a half a brain would take 1/2 a second to spray paint the camera lens before attacking their victim.

PS. Why did HPD wait week(s) before releasing the photo of the perv to the public? He could be long gone in hopping a flight to the mainland or another country by now. As soon as this happened, they should have posted this guys photo on the local news, newspaper, internet, maybe even on electronic freeway signs that can show images.

Apparently took that long to process the image with spray paint on the lens.

Amen to that and having children speak up right away …

My guess is that once we have RAIL( if it isn’t stopped) there will be a lot more of this type crimes as no driver on Muffee, Carlyle & Caldwells choo choo. We will see pickpockets, muggings, rapes & robberies and probably more because the choo choo (RAIL) will run late at night. lets hope they catch this guy for starters.

        • makiki123 says:

Wow…Rail will bring about many ills. Not like anything else does. Way to be optimistic.

Agree, people need to learn to speak up. If they’re never taught when a traumatic episode like this happens there’s a good chance of them freezing up. Lucky thing for this sicko I didn’t witness this attack. I’d rough him up before placing him under citizen’s arrest. He’d be lucky there were other passengers on the bus.

agree…But I ride the bus to Waikiki and have seen, smelled and heard many bizarre things during my stay in Hawaii. I report very little and most people ignore the bad behavior. Obviously, if I saw an assault I would report it. Even the threat of an assault is illegal by the way. But it is rarely reported I find.

Quite a bit of righteous indignation expressed here. Unfortunately, most of it seems to be directed at the victim.

      It. Wasn’t. Her. Fault.

I am not blaming the child, I am blaming the parents and the adults in these children’s lives who are not preparing their children against pervs and predators in our society. For example, instead of the DOE worrying about Pono choices how about they include in the PE classes how to deal with these situations at a child appropriate level. When a small child gets on the bus by themselves and the bus is empty how about the bus drivers guide these children to sit way up in front instead of the back by themselves. Same thing with the airlines, when unaccompanied minors are traveling on the plane, they should automatically be given priority over the very front row seats closest to the air cabin bathrooms and crew galley where it is very open and lots of foot traffic right in front of these seats. Unaccompanied young children should be instructed and guided by BOTH parents and bus drivers to sit as close to the front as possible nearest to the bus driver and the bus doors.

This perp should be easy to catch. Nice photo.

  3. koloheboi says:

From an adult’s perspective, it might seem easy to easily say something but when you are young and naive, a sexual assault such as this it totally out of the norm and probably for most young people their instinct can be of confusion and freezing up. She had the courage to tell the bus driver. Yes, education is important to helping youngsters step forward and say something immediately.

  4. Blunt says:

OCCC and Halawa inmates hope we catch him. Shouldn’t be hard to find with those crooked eyes. I think I might have seen him somewhere years ago. Never saw such crooked eyes. HPD should say whether there is a reward. Should always give rewards for perps they are having a hard time catching. Always.

Another bang up job by “exceeds expectations” Kealoha. Why not wait longer next time before releasing this pervert’s pic to the public.
This should have been on the evening news the day of the attack and on the front page the following morning Louie. Get the lead out of *ss and do your darn job.

Parents please talk to your kids. If they ride the bus and something like this is happening to them please tell them to speak up or tell them to let someone who is sitting or standing near them know. Every day I ride the bus and when I see kids and it don’t matter how old I am always keeping my eye on who is around them. I have kids of my own and I would want that to happen to them. As for all the bus riders please be on the look out for our Keiki’s and let’s catch this PERV.
