Diver reported safe after gear found in ocean off Molokai

The Coast Guard says the search for the owner of the orange dive flag and buoy found Wednesday in the ocean off Molokai Airport ended Wednesday after the diver was located safe ashore.

The diver was never in distress and stated that he and his son had lost the buoy while diving near Lahaina, the Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard started a search for a possible missing diver about five miles south of the Molokai Airport following the discovery of the dive flag and buoy .

The tug American Contender reported finding the items Wednesday morning and searched the area., but  found no one in distress.
