Emilia passes south of Hawaii leaving lighter winds and sunny skies

Forecasters say we can expect lighter winds and fewer showers as what’s left of former Hurricane Emilia moves away from the state.

Emilia’s remnants, now just a low pressure area, brought stronger tradewinds and occasional tradewind showers to the state as it passed south of Hawaii Tuesday and Wednesday..

High pressure north of the islands contributed to the gusty tradewinds..

That high pressure system is expected to weaken Friday and Emilia should move completely past the state by tonight, creating lighter winds and sunny skies for most islands this weekend, National Weather Service forecasters said.

Kauai might get a few showers late Friday night into Saturday morning as another weather system moves closer to the islands.
