Enjoy sunny skies now; rain forecast for weekend

Sunny skies today are expected to give way to hazy days and rain tomorrow night and Sunday.

Derek Wroe, a forecaster with the National Weather Service, says a large weather system 1,000 miles to the west is cutting off our usual tradewinds from the northwest.

Winds will be shifting and coming out of the southwest, bringing up moist tropical air and a 90 percent chance of rain by Sunday.

“Today should be a nice day,” Wroe said. But as the winds shift, there’s an increased chance of vog from the Big Island and a 40 percent chance of rain tomorrow night.

Wroe said there likely won’t be thundershowers associated with this round of showers. But forecasters are monitoring the system just in case.

Forecasters say the rainy weather may continue through Tuesday.
