Escaped Oahu Community Correctional Center inmate Alan Abihai, who failed to return from a work furlough June 10, has been captured, according to the state Department of Public Safety.

Abihai, 52, was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies working with U.S. Marshals around 6 p.m. Sunday.

The department did not disclose where Abihai was found.

Abihai was convicted of attempted murder, robbery, sexual assault and kidnapping in 1985. He was paroled in October 2009, but was returned to custody in June 2010 for violating the terms of his parole.

In April, the parole board recommended that he participate in the work furlough program before being paroled again.

This was the second time that Abihai has escaped. In 2006, he eluded capture for two months after walking away from the Laumaka Work Furlough Center.
