Ewa Beach man out on bail in handgun-firing case

The 21-year-old man accused of firing a handgun into the ground Wednesday during an argument in Waimanalo has been released after posting bail.

According to police records, Brandon Abiva was released around 2 p.m. Friday on $35,000 bail.

Police arrested Abiva shortly after the Wednesday afternoon incident and later charged him with first-degree terroristic threatening and first-degree reckless endangering.

The Ewa Beach man was one of three motorcyclists who were involved in a traffic incident on the H-3 freeway Wednesday afternoon that prompted a woman motorist to call family members, who followed the motorcyclists to Waimanalo.

In Waimanalo, one of the woman’s relatives, a 33-year-old man, got involved in a verbal argument on the street with Abiva, police said. The motorcyclist allegedly pulled a handgun out of his backpack and threatened to shoot the man.

Police spotted Abiva shortly after the 4 p.m. incident on his motorcycle stopped in traffic on Kalanianaole Highway near Keolu Drive and apprehended him as he was attempting to flee the scene on foot.
