  • Family members located Chad Chun on Monday near his home in a forested area in the Paradise Park area of Keaau.

Family members using hunting dogs found a 36-year-old man missing since Saturday morning after he went hiking in a forested area near his home in the Paradise Park area of Keaau, the Hawaii County Fire Department said Monday.

Chad Chun, 36, was found at about 11:30 a.m. and taken to the trail head, where he received treatment for dehydration and minor cuts and scrapes, firefighters said. An ambulance took him to the Hilo Medical Center for further evaluation.

Rescue crews and a helicopter searched Saturday evening and Sunday for Chun, whom police said has a medical condition requiring medication.

He was last seen at the end of 11th Avenue in Hawaiian Paradise Park near his family’s property in the area.

Chun’s father reported him missing Saturday evening after he failed to return.
