Fire damaged a two-bedroom apartment on the second floor of the Alii Lani Townhomes complex in Kailua-Kona early this morning.

Big Island firefighters responding to the 3:22 alarm saw flames coming out of the mauka bedroom window of an apartment. Other apartments in the wooden building were evacuated. Firefighters extinguished the blaze about 30 minutes after they  arrived. No one was injured.

The fire was contained to unit 204 at the complex at 75-6081 Alii Drive. Damage was estimated at $60,000 to the apartment, which the manager said was in foreclosure, and $10,000 to its contents. The apartment below it suffered minor water damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
