Firefighters contained a 10-acre brush fire in Kalaeloa that began early Thursday afternoon on the same block as the federal building containing the FBI offices.

Eight fire companies responded to the 1:03 p.m. alarm fire, and the first company was on scene at 1:10 p.m.

The building is not being threatened and no one was evacuated, Fire Department spokesman David Jenkins said.

The fire was located on the block bounded by Roosevelt Avenue, Saratoga Avenue, Lexington Street and Enterprise Street. Traffic in the area was being affected.

The fire was brought under control at 8 p.m.

Ten acres of heavy kiawe trees and underbrush were blackened.

One company remained on scene overnight to monitor the area.
