Waimano Falls is a popular hiking area in Pearl City for people to jump into the pool.

Firefighters rescued a teenager from the Waimano Falls area Saturday morning after she injured her shoulder swinging on a rope, a Honolulu Fire Department spokesman said.

A call came in around 10:20 a.m. for a rescue near the Manana trail in Pearl City, which is near the falls.

Rescuers arrived about 10 minutes later and were able to locate the girl, reportedly 14 or 15 years old, near the swimming hole and rescue her using the department’s helicopter, HFD spokesman Kevin Mokulehua said.

The girl was with a group of approximately seven hikers, including students and chaperones, according to Mokulehua. A chaperone was also airlifted from the area to accompany the girl, but was not injured.

The rescue crew transferred the girl to Emergency Medical Services personnel around 11:45 a.m., Mokulehua said.

According to reports from the rescue crew, the girl was swinging from a rope near the falls when she injured her shoulder.
